Norrbyskär - a presentation
Towards the end of the 19th century, one of Europe´s largest sawmills grew on this beautiful island in its picturesque achipelago setting. Today, the island´s history is interleaved with art, handicrafts, Västerbotten cuisine and adventure activities. The museum´s "Life on Norrbyskär, 1892-1952" exhibition puts you in touch with the lives of the people who resided and worked on the island during the sawmill era. At the museum, you can also enjoy a timber-yard lunch - a typical taste of Västerbotten and the archipelago. An art gallery and shop are further attractions here. For families with young children, there is "Little Norrbyskär". On a 1:3 scale, this pedagogical play park recreates an island scene from the 1920´s.
A history trail dotted with information boards runs around the island. Maps are available at the museum. If you do not want to make your own way around, take the circular tour train.
A bicycle or a canoe is an easy way of getting around the island. For adults and children seeking challenges there is an adventure trail. The KFUM (YMCA) runs camping activities on the island.
