Address: Norrbyskär Umeå

Discover the archipelago with a trip to Norrbyskär. Picnic on the rocks, museum visits, children's activities - Norrbyskär has something for everyone!

Norrbyskärs very special story tells of how some barren, uninhabited cuts during the late 1800s turned into a thriving society, built around Europe's largest steam-powered sawmill. The old workers' houses are now left in perfectly straight rows and is now used as summer residences.

Norrbyskärs museum offers exhibits, guided tours, cafe and children's activities. The island also houses plenty of lovely spots where you can usefully be a picnic and just enjoy the fantastic archipelago environment.

By bus or car are you doing Norrbyn, 39 km south of Umeå. A ferry ride of about 15 minutes, takes you then out to the cays. While the activities on the island can be paid by card, take the ferry captain cash only or swish.

A new innovative way to approach Norrbyskär and its unique sawmill history with the mobile application "Charged Utopia" is available in Swedish and English during the high season June - August 2017.

Welcome on the bit - something you should not miss in the summer!
